The match ball focuses on grip and accuracy: it has a fine-dimpled cover, often hand-stitched, and a valve designed for a stable flight path when kicked. It performs best on grass and is meant for matches. The training ball, with a thicker cover, can take hundreds of passes each week, endure hard pitches and rain without losing its shape. For a player training alone or with friends, it’s the more durable choice. In all cases, the size is chosen according to age: five for adults, four and three for youth categories.

A helmet or shoulder pads bought on promotion must, like any other, carry the World Rugby label to be accepted in a match. This label certifies compliance with Regulation 12, which governs these protections: foams of about one centimetre thick at most and of limited density, designed to absorb impacts without becoming dangerous for the opponent. It can be found on the product's inner label. For a gum shield, the fit is the priority: it should cover the entire upper arch, stay in place without clenching your teeth, and allow free breathing during physical effort.
For a club, a bulk purchase should be prepared with a list of each player’s sizes, taken from the brand's guide, plus one or two items in intermediate sizes for new recruits. With reversible pinnies, one set is enough, one per player, since each one offers two colours. Team socks are ordered by size, with a few spare pairs for substitutes. For children, one size up works for clothes, but not for protective gear, which must remain fitted to do its job.
Good deals can be found in the good deals, promotions, clearance, sales, Black Friday. The new arrivals showcase the latest collections, and items shipped in 24 hours are prepared and sent out within a day. The key events of the year follow a stable order: Black Friday at the end of autumn, the end-of-year holidays, the winter sales, the French Days of spring, then the summer sales and back-to-school season.
A gum shield, suitable studded shoes for the pitch, tall socks, and training kit are enough to get started. The helmet and shoulder pads are optional and can come later depending on the player’s preferences.
No, it is generally a model being replaced by a new version, often just for a difference in colour or finish. The materials and certification remain the same, making it a perfectly safe choice.
Some shoulder pads are designed for the female physique, with a cut and foams adapted to the chest. They comply with the same certification standards as unisex models and are also chosen based on chest circumference.
A sports bag with a separate compartment for shoes keeps things clean and away from the mud. For a coach, a ball bag and a bag dedicated to the first aid kit make transport easier.
Check the expiration dates before each session, replace any opened bandages and used ice packs. A kit stored dry and closed after each match stays ready for any minor injury.
